'Rituals Amongst the Grove' 2021 | Architecture Competition
This Meditation Pavilion, designed for ‘Earth Energies Sanctuary’ is located amongst the hills of Waitakaruru, New Zealand. One enters upon the open engawa and connects guests to nature. A soft, operable fabric ceiling shapes the calm atmosphere of the pavilion and diffuses sunlight. Guests are offered an open floor to perform meditation, yoga and natural therapy. Timber is the essential sustainable construction material which allows the structure to recede into the landscape. The façade acts as a system of apertures with sliding and folding hinged doors. Combining nature and tranquillity allow the architecture of the pavilion to heighten experience.
